If you look up empathy in a dictionary, my advocate’s face would be there. She helped with my dad, when he was undergoing a lung transplant due to COPD. She listened to the healthcare team, asked the important questions, and built relationships with his entire medical team. She also supported my mom. My advocate made me feel like I had a guardian angel by my side.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with lupus. It was a difficult diagnosis to make, and it’s been even harder to treat. I have to give special praise to my health advocate for her guidance and help through this process.
